As we all sit here waiting for Mother Nature to blanket our lives with copious amounts of snow, we begin to question her motives if we don’t see snow. Most of us have skied as early as October and as late as July at ski resorts. These are the seasons we never forget. However, when a season starts off the way this one is starting a couple things come to mind and reminds me to be patient, it’s Kirkwood, it will DUMP when Mother Nature is ready to unleash. Until such time there are ways to prepare yourself so when I arrives, you will be ready.
I grew up learning how to ski on the East Coast and I remember winters that would just pass over and the ski resorts would NOT open up at all. If they did open on low snow seasons, man would help out with snowmaking efforts, however the surface would be several feet of boiler plate, see through ice where you could see the grass growing beneath your skis, and we where stoked to just be sliding down the hill (not mountain).
So in preparation for Mother Nature’s arrival… come out to Kirkwood, get your laps in, build your ski/riding legs, look at it as exercise so when she blesses us you are ready to “scralp the gnar!” The snow is white, you are sliding on a mountain and not a hill and I don’t see anything better than sharing the outdoors with a bunch of your friends prepping for the wrath of Mother Nature.
