The field of play for the 2011/2012 Tour is stacked deep.  Athletes from around the globe all are competing for the Holy Grail of the freeride world the overall “TOUR CHAMPION”. This is a small group of elite athletes that share this title…

August 23rd 2011- It did not take long for Josh Daiek to recover from some pretty serious injuries sustained during the Memorial Day weekend POW session here at Kirkwood. With apuncture in his lung, 12 broken ribs & some serious damage to his liver we all thought “this might be it for BB-Jay". Now fast forward to tour stop #1 in South America! Daiek stuns the Freeride community with a 6th place finish at the Red Bull Powder Disorder @ LAS LENAS…  This weekend BB-Jay again hammered it home with a 2nd place podium @ North Face Chilean Freeskiing Championships @ Ski ARPA. With a 2nd & 6th under his belt for 2011/2012 out of the gate, Will Daiek take the podium once again in Revelstoke? I certainly hope so. My thoughts, Josh is primed for the top spot with an amazing ability to just charge, both fluid falline & clean. He has the ability to get upside down when he wants and the skills to spin & win….

I would toss into the ring another amazing Tahoe athlete here as well Kevin O’Meara, Squaw Valley’s original shogun!  O’Meara is always a threat when he is in the mix, a 10th at the Red Bull Disorder in LAS LENAS & a solid 3rd place podium @ North Face Chilean Freeskiing Championships @ Ski ARPA. Between the two it is hard for me to pick a top spot….  With no clear front runner at this time it is clearly within BB-Jays reach to gain ground with two rock solid showings in the first events for 2011/2012…

For me, I want to see the Daiek & O’Meara combo in the top two spots… Whose on top, well that’s up to them…..

Just say’n.

Now let’s look at the ladies! Impressive, bold, fluid & top of their game.  The ladies field of play is stacked with amazing athletes as well. At the Red Bull Disorder tour stop #1 it was Crystal Wright on the podium in the top spot followed by tour leader Angel Collinson.

Then fast forward to Ski Arpa and we have local from La Parva, Chile Sole Diaz in the top spot with Angel Collinson taking a 2nd place podium & Crystal Wright in the third spot.  Now I will admit, I was not following the ladies very closely, and I apologize for this…. After watching the footy from the ladies qualifier & finals I will keep my eyes on these amazing athletes.

I so wish I was there to watch these athletes first hand, I was as many of us glued to my laptop dreaming of a fresh turn in South American “Cold Some POW”! The stoke level in the Cooper Haus was high these past few weeks following the FWT through South Amercia. Next stop for the tour Revelstoke Canada .
